Illustrated Steps

1

Prepare the Hallway

Clear the hallway of any tripping hazards. Grab your string, tape, and scissors, and get ready to design your course.

2

Build the Web

Tape the string to one wall, then pull it across the hallway to the opposite wall. Tape it again. Alternate high, low, and diagonal angles to make it tricky!

3

Navigate the Lasers

Time to test it! Step carefully over low strings and crawl under the high ones. Keep your balance and don't touch the lasers!

4

Race the Clock

Once you've mastered the maze, use a stopwatch to see who can make it through the fastest without setting off the alarm.

What You’ll Create

Turn your hallway into a high-security spy vault! You’ll create a complex web of ’laser’ beams using string, and then challenge yourself to navigate through the maze without touching a single laser.

How to Set It Up

Step 1: Prepare the Hallway

Clear the hallway of any tripping hazards. Grab your string, tape, and scissors, and get ready to design your course.

Step 2: Build the Web

Tape the string to one wall, then pull it across the hallway to the opposite wall. Tape it again. Alternate high, low, and diagonal angles to make it tricky!

Step 3: Navigate the Lasers

Time to test it! Step carefully over low strings and crawl under the high ones. Keep your balance and don’t touch the lasers!

Step 4: Race the Clock

Once you’ve mastered the maze, use a stopwatch to see who can make it through the fastest without setting off the alarm.

Have fun!

Can you do it backwards? What about blindfolded with a friend guiding you? Put a ’treasure’ at the end of the maze that you have to retrieve.

Why It’s Amazing

This activity is brilliant for developing gross motor skills, spatial awareness, and body control as children figure out how to contort themselves through the gaps.

Pro Tips

Use brightly coloured string or yarn so it’s easy to see. If taping to painted walls, use painter’s tape to avoid peeling the paint when you take the maze down.
