What You’ll Create

Every great wizard or fairy needs a wand! ๐Ÿช„ You will transform a simple Twig from your garden or the park into a shimmering Enchanted Magic Wand. Using sparkling Aluminium Foil, colourful String, and a dash of Glitter, you’ll create a tool capable of casting the most imaginative spells!

How to Set It Up

Step 1: Find Your Wand

Go on a nature walk and find the perfect Twig. It should be about the length of your forearm and fairly straight. Brush off any loose dirt or bark so it’s clean and ready for magic.

Step 2: Add the Shimmer

Tear off a small piece of Aluminium Foil and wrap it tightly around one end of the twig. This will be the ‘magic core’ of your wand. Squeeze it firmly so it takes the shape of the stick.

Step 3: Wrap the Handle

Tie a piece of colourful String just below the foil. Wrap the string tightly around the twig, moving downwards to create a comfortable handle. Tie a knot at the bottom to secure it.

Step 4: Add the Magic Dust

Apply a small amount of PVA Glue to the foil tip or the string handle. Carefully sprinkle some Glitter over the glue. Let it dry completely before you start casting your first spells!

Have fun!

  • โœจ Give your wand a special name, like ‘The Star-Seeker’ or ‘The Dragon-Tamer’.
  • ๐Ÿ“œ Write down a list of 3 magic spells and what they do (e.g., ‘Expecto Tidiness’ for cleaning your room!).
  • ๐Ÿงš Wave your wand in different patterns โ€” circles, zig-zags, or figure-eights โ€” to see which one feels most powerful.
  • ๐ŸŒฒ Take your wand back to where you found the twig and see if it can ’talk’ to the other trees.

Why It’s Amazing

  • Fine Motor Skills: Wrapping string and squeezing foil builds strength and dexterity in small hands. ๐Ÿ–๏ธ
  • Nature Connection: Encourages children to explore the outdoors and find beauty in simple natural objects. ๐ŸŒณ
  • Imaginative Play: Provides a physical prop for endless hours of creative role-playing and storytelling. ๐ŸŽญ
  • Sensory Engagement: The tactile feel of the foil and the visual sparkle of the glitter are highly stimulating. โœจ

Pro Tips

For ages 3-5: Help them tie the initial knot for the string. Use larger ‘chunky’ glitter if possible to make cleanup easier.

For ages 5-8: Encourage them to find a twig with a unique shape, like a ‘Y’ at the top, to make a more complex wand.

For ages 8-12: Challenge them to add more decorations, like small beads or feathers, using the string to tie them on.
